Finale for the J60 ITF Juniors Rhodes Open

With a spectacular day of finals and the stands of the Rhodes Tennis Association (ROA) packed to capacity, the international ITF Juniors J60 Rhodes Open tournament concluded. The event, which was held under the auspices of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and the Hellenic Amateur Tennis Federation (EFOA), with the co-organization of the South Aegean Region and the Municipality of Rhodes and the valuable support of Babolat, was crowned with absolute organizational and competitive success.

Rhodes fans enjoyed world-class tennis, with the young athletes giving their best:

  • Boys' Singles: The big winner was Greek Rafael Pagonis, who defeated Spanish Oleg Covian 6-2, 6-1.
  • Girls' Singles: Madalena Matias (Portugal) won the title against Greek Konstantina Volonaki (4-6, 6-4, 6-2).
  • Boys' Doubles: Marinos Karniatis and Rafael Pagonis defeated Alexandros Avgeris and Alkis Michalopoulos 6-2, 6-4.
  • Girls' Doubles: Valerie Hafstrom (Sweden) and Veronika Navratilova (Czech Republic) won against Antonia Anastasia Papagapitou and Konstantina Volonaki (5-7, 6-3, 10-3).

The turnout throughout the week was impressive, culminating in the boys' final, where the ROA stands were packed, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of major tournaments abroad.

Statement by ROA President, Mr. Vasilis Arapis:
“We feel deeply proud of the success of this year’s J60 Rhodes Open. The level of tennis was the highest in recent years and Rhodes proved that it can host world-class events. I would like to thank the ITF, the Hellenic Tennis Association, the South Aegean Region and the Municipality of Rhodes for their excellent cooperation, as well as Babolat for its support. Above all, I would like to thank the people of Rhodes who embraced the event.”

  • The club coaches, the club secretary, the grounds maintainers and our invaluable volunteers.
  • The management and staff of the Tennis Cafe for their impeccable service to athletes and spectators.
